However, what you may not realize is that this freedom and authority over yourself can go to your head. In fact, in all possibility, you have become a freelancer to escape authority, am I right?However, having no authority can set you up for failure and you may end up feeling entitled, feeling as though you are unique and that the client needs you and the skill you have to offer. And you might be thinking… but they do? Yes, sure they do… but you need them as well. This is a relationship, and like any other relationship, you deserve nothing more than you give, so don’t fall in the trap of feeling entitled. How do you avoid falling into this trap?Focus on cultivating a healthy, mutually respectful, and mutually beneficial relationship with your client. Place focus on the relationship just as much as you focus on the projects that you are worki ng on.You can do this by striving to be a responsible, likable, and dependable person, and in most cases this is often more important than the skills you have to offer because there is always going to be another freelancer out there with equally desirable skills. So what is your unique selling point? What will make the client want to work with you as opposed to others?Work on your attitude, be personable, be understanding, be cooperative, be likable, keep the relationship enjoyable, and always remember no one owes you a thing, you get what you give.Poor CommunicationThis is another detrimental mistake. Poor communication leaves your client feeling worried and out of the loop, wondering whether his investment in you was a waste of time, and in doubt about your dependability and ability to deliver.Like all relationships, good communication is a key element for a healthy relationship. If you want to maintain a great client relationship that keeps both you and your client happy, keep ta lking to them, update them on the progress of the project and any hurdles you might have encountered along the way.Phone them, email them, have online chats and video chats, arrange for regular meetings, and show them why they chose to hire you in the first place. Also keep communication open, where the client can reach you at any time and cultivate a friendly, happy, and approachable communication culture.However, be careful not to overstep to the extent where you give the client the impression that you are unprofessional. Getting too personal with your client could also be detrimental in the sense that one of you might end up getting hurt along the way resulting in a sour and irredeemable relationship. So while communication should be open and friendly, make sure to maintain a nice balance between casual and professional.Staying with a Hostile ClientYes, it’s true; it’s your job to keep the client happy. But this is still a relationship remember?Relationships are a two way str eet and there are many factors that can make a client a bad, or rather the wrong client for you.   This may be inclusive of their working style, their unwillingness to cooperate or assist when there is a hurdle, they’re difficulty, their pay rate, how difficult they are, unreasonably stringent deadlines, their communication style…It could be anything really. What can you do?Be aware that when you choose the wrong client, you will be unhappy, less motivated, make less money, essentially exposing yourself to the toxic work environment that you should be shielded from as a freelancer. Just like clients select freelancers carefully, also select your clients very carefully, do your research on them, observe their communication style at first instance, carefully consider their expectations and then decide if they are the best fit for you and if they are worth the hassle.When you work on your first project, let it be on a trial basis and if you end up feeling that they are not a good f it for a particular reason, talk to them about it and to see how this can be mitigated. If after communicating your concerns they are unwilling to adjust, then it might be time to consider other options.As a freelancer, you know specifically how you are looking to benefit, so the best advice is to internalize on this and decide what kind of client provide it and go for exactly that.No Work-Life BalanceWhen you are a freelancer, its easy to get lost in your work, where all you think and talk about is your business. While your work is absolutely important, letting it take over all your life and going at it every waking hour is not so advisable.Even the most hardworking and focused people need some downtime. When you find your work taking over your life and affecting your relationships with the important people in your life it’s time to review your work schedule.Although freelancing allows you to earn more depending on the hours you put in, it is also unhealthy to spend every waking hour at work. So how can you go about this?Establish a balance between your work and your life and place equal priority on your down time as you do on your work, create time in your schedule to do things you enjoy. Have you ever noticed that your speed and effectiveness reduces with each hour you stay at work? Have you considered that maybe you need a break to refresh your mind? A close friend of mine once told me something I have found to be true, ‘Focus on being productive rather than being busy.’The easiest way to do this is to create a well-balanced schedule. This does not necessarily have to model a 9 to 5 job, you don’t have to take breaks in conventional hours, just make sure your schedule is consistent, regularly reboots your mind, allows you to maintain healthy relationships, and maintains a good productivity level so you get things done more effectively.Breaking PromisesThis is another detrimental mistake you can make as a freelancer. Please do not promise anything y ou are not sure you can deliver. It’s understandable that you want to keep your client happy and prove that you are reliable and efficient but every time you give a client high expectations only to let them down it works against you.You come off as dishonest, inconsistent, and unreliable instead. You begin to acquire a very negative reputation. How can you avoid making this mistake?Sometimes you might be making promises that you think are attainable, but I have found that the most effective way to deliver every time is to first listen to the client and understand what they need.Once you have understood this, carefully consider whether you can deliver and if there are factors that might delay you communicate them immediately to the client and come to an agreement that is comfortable for the both of you.If you find yourself falling behind on a deadline for whatever reason, speak to your client about it, keep those communication lines open, it’s far much better to be honest. Also k eep in mind, it’s always better to under state your delivery and over deliver as opposed to giving high expectations and under-performing.StrategyWe inferred the importance of scheduling earlier… jumping right into work without a plan is one of the worst things you can do. As a freelancer you have no one there to monitor you and it’s easy to fall prey to your own chaotic schedule to the point where you’re not really being efficient in your work. What can you do?A good work strategy does not imply that you have to be behind a screen 24 hours a day, all it means is that you have to create a consistent work schedule based on the hours in which you find yourself being most productive. It makes no sense being behind your computer but feeling so unmotivated you find yourself playing solitaire instead. Everyone works differently so think about what works for you and base your whole work routine on that.A consistent and strategic schedule disciplines both the mind and body to work w hen its time. Ode On Grecian Urn Imagine the following: a bride dressed in white on her wedding day, savage men chasing after women, the lingering subject of love, or a peaceful, uncorrupted town. What do these topics have in common? Through the use of these topics, John Keats portrays the theme of eternal innocence and the sufficiency of beauty throughout his poem, "Ode on a Grecian Urn." In the first stanza of the poem which has a rhyme scheme of ababcdedce, Keats introduces the theme of eternal innocence and the sufficiency of beauty with reference to the "unravished bride of quietness." Accepting her purity of not yet engaging in the sexual actions of marriage, the urn portrays the bride in this state, and she will remain like so forever. Also in the first stanza, Keats uses the literary technique of cacophony to describe savage men chasing women into the dark, mysterious, and savage woods. Some of the cacophonic words include "thy, Arcady, and ecstasy." Using these words, Keats makes the urn capture the picture of the chase before any sexual desires or intentions are fulfilled. Since the urn ceases to describe anything past the chase itself, the situation is purely innocent with beauty thus complying with the theme. Also evident throughout the second and third stanzas is the theme of eternal innocence and beauty. Keats writes of a young man sitting under a tree with the girl whom he loves. He is playing a pan flute to the girl expressing his passion for her through music. Once captured by Story2 the urn, the picture will remain like so forever. The trees with the leaves, the maiden, and the young man himself will always remain the same. He will always play the flute and can never kiss the girl. Keats uses the following lines in this stanza: "She cannot fade, though thou hast not thy bliss, / For ever wilt thou love, and she be fair!" These lines simply mean that the boy doesn't have the bliss of the kiss; but the poet says not to worry because the young maiden will always be remain by his side, young and beautiful. The urn captures her innocence. Therefore, since the maiden and the young man never actually have a sexual contact relationship, their love is pure, innocent, and eternal thus complying with the theme of eternal innocence and beauty. Continuing to the fourth stanza, the theme of eternal innocence and beauty is profound with the subject of a peaceful, uncorrupted town. The urn presents a priest leading a heifer dressed in garland up to an altar. The people from the town are on their way to the altar. The town symbolizes the potential of man (cheating, lying, pride, and envy). Then, as the story continues, a bit of irony becomes present. The people are portrayed to have taken over a spiritual nature of innocence and purity. They are spiritual in nature as depicted by the urn; but not even five minutes later, they plan to sacrifice the heifer. But, once again, by freezing in time the picture of innocence, the urn does not represent the corrupted image that is about to take place. It has caught the people in a holy moment, and it has caught the town as an empty picture of beauty. Therefore, Keats once again demonstrates eternal innocence and beauty by capturing on the urn the picture of an uncorrupted town and a group of holy people. In the last stanza, Keats tells the reader he has teased their thought by convincing that the theme of innocence and beauty are ever present in society. This last stanza leaves the reader with mixed emotions as a result of the mixed imagery. This means that the narrator voices Story3 protests of the superiority of the world captured in the Arcadian scenes (first stanza), but is perplexed by the unanswered questions stemming from the silence of the "Cold Pastoral" in the last stanza. He is primarily trying to tease the thought process by making the reader think of something eternal. Also adding to the confusion is the most famous part of the poem that lies within the couplet at the conclusion of the ode. Keats metaphorically penned these lines: "Beauty is truth, truth beauty,--that is all/ Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know." It is said that even Keats was not clear of the exact message presented by this statement. Most critics think he used the terms of truth and beauty in a Platonic sense, as verbal representations of

The Politics essays In the book The Politics, Aristotle analyzes different types of political communities. He examines these political communities on two different levels; first as a city and then as a regime. By studying both city and regime you get the full picture of the different types of governments throughout the world. Aristotle uses this dual approach to describe the different types of regimes. Through his evaluation of the city and regime, Aristotle comes to the conclusion that oligarchies, which are governments that are ruled by the few, are deviant regimes because they govern for the good of the rulers, and not for the good of the whole. The city is the first level that Aristotle uses to evaluate different types of political communities. A complete city is the multitude of such persons that is adequate with a view to a self-sufficient life (Aristotle pg. 87). Villages are collaboration of many households that have come together so they can obtain non-daily needs. Since villages are not self-sufficient, they join together to form cities. Cities provide you with the things your household and your village are not able to provide to you. Therefore, the city is the only thing that can exists self-sufficiently, and it exists for the sake of living well. The city is also the most authoritative partnership. The city embraces all other partnerships and therefore, it aims at the most authoritative good of all, which is living well. Aristotle uses city to generally describe political communities. The city only describes the people who inhabit it; it does not distinguish who the rulers are or what kind of rule the city has. The citizens are an important aspect of political communities because knowing the citizens allows you to investigate what type of regime that particular city has or should have. Husserl, Carnap, Heidegger, and Wittgenstein ABSTRACT: Phenomenology and logical positivism both subscribed to an empirical-verifiability criterion of mental or linguistic meaning. The acceptance of this criterion confronted them with the same problem: how to understand the Other as a subject with his own experience, if the existence and nature of the Other's experiences cannot be verified. Husserl tackled this problem in the Cartesian Meditations, but he could not reconcile the verifiability criterion with understanding the Other's feelings and sensations. Carnap's solution was to embrace behaviorism and eliminate the idea of private sensations, but behaviorism has well-known difficulties. Heidegger broke this impasse by suggesting that each person's being included being-with, an innate capacity for understanding the Other. To be human is to be "hard-wired" to make sense of the Other without having to verify the Other's private sensations. I suggest that being-with emerged from an evolutionary imperative for conspecific animal s to recognize each other and to coordinate their activities. Wittgenstein also rejected the verifiability criterion. He theorized that the meaning of a term is its usage and that terms about private sensations were meaningful because they have functions in our language-games. For example, "I'm in pain," like a cry of pain, functions to get the attention of others and motivate others to help. Wittgenstein's theory shows how Dasein's being-with includes "primitive" adaptive behavior such as cries, smiles, and threatening or playful gesture. As Dasein is acculturated, these behaviors are partially superseded by functionally equivalent linguistic expressions. I. Introduction There are obvious and important ways in which analytic and continental philosophy differ, but this should not make us overlook their thematic and historical similarities. Both traditions had their roots in phenomenalistic theories that attempted to reduce all meaning to the immediately given. Adult education’s principal and fundamental principle is to harness and enhance adult individual’s skill and knowledge to be productive contributors to the society. Adult learners should be educated not only for increase of knowledge but also for gaining more integral values as they were expected to give more of themselves and contribute in productivity of the society they belong. Fundamental Principles to Adult Education Being a teacher of a particular credit-based community college course is a very serious and tedious task. Since there would be a variety of 35 students’ whose age range vary from 17- 70 years old, this would certainly mean a† big challenge† for the instructor’s part, in order to teach and provide learning effectively. Malcolm S. Knowles, a prominent writer and instructor, advocated the theory of non-formal (informal) andragogy or adult education in the United States. He taught various principles and wrote numerous detailed accounts discussing on how to facilitate learning especially for the adults. Applying clinical Rogerian psychology in his writings and teaching; in result, he was able to train his students to acquire the attitude of being self-motivated. Furthermore, Knowles initiated the interest for implementation of informal adult education and he differentiated the advantages of the informal education, to the standard, traditional formal education. According to Knowles, formal education are mostly implemented and commonly used in secondary educational schools, commerce schools, and universities; whereas in informal adult education, students are just likely to complete credits on particular vocational or training courses and their classes are to be held on â€Å"community center unions, and other industries and even churches. Moreover, formal education requires that of being stable for completion of long term four-year course or more; when the latter (informal education) serves to be more temporary and flexible. However, it does not mean that informal education is not serious, the system just purports to be flexible enough to meet the needs of the adults who may be busy with their lives (job, family, religious and other activities). And these cases meet the demands of several adults who would want to re-educate themselves and to refresh their knowledge and learning from their vast experience, or to simply increase and gain more knowledge and training from their desires course of interest. In brief, Malcolm Knowles acknowledged the increasing demand and importance of adult education in the present 20th century. Knowles objective of real learning in adults, he emphasizes that an adult learner should acquire self-concept, readiness to learn, experience, orientation towards learning, and especially, the motivation to learn (Smith, 2002). On the other hand, a professor in New Zealand named, T. A. Hunter, also propounded the proliferation and development of an adult education movement. Hunter’s principle of education is grounded on his belief that education is depicted to the successful adjustment of a man to physical and social changes in one’s environment. His blueprint for adult education is the successful integration of biological, physiological, sociocultural, and cognitive knowledge derived from the informal training or education (Hunter, 1929). Adult education should mainly function to harness and enhance adult individual’s skill and knowledge. Adult learners at the same time should still be given the opportunity for advancement since their success is the society’s growth as well. Adult learners should be educated not only for increase of knowledge but also for gaining more integral values as they were expected to give more of themselves and contribute in productivity of the society they belong. In addition, this adult education is more of an inspiration among individuals who are in search for more adequate and applicable learning, and is regarded as an opportunity to success with one’s endeavors and purpose of serving the society (UNESCO, 1960). Fundamental principles of adult education then, should be grounded on the â€Å"realistic† and objective goal of learning. Education as embedded in the infinite realm of knowledge should be available to everyone regardless of age, sex, race, ethnicity, and culture. Adult education, as it plays a significant role and is the demand of most populace, should be taken seriously to address the learner’s need for proper, adequate, and effective learning. Moreover, there is a call for the government, to increase attention for the provision of the proper adult education.
